North American domestic species Maple, Hickory/Pecan and Birch are all available as unfinished flooring.

Maples used in hardwood flooring usually grow to a maximum height of somewhere between 25 and 35 feet. Unfinished maple is great for use in flooring due to the pleasing creamy white color of the sap wood and the darker, reddish brown of the heartwood. The wood also features high crush resistance, scuff resistance and will show good durability when installed in the home. Maple is used for many other items besides wood. This same quality also makes it one of the more difficult woods to work with because it is somewhat difficult to get a smooth finish on the wood and nailing Hickory Pecan flooring down is often difficult. But it is a very sturdy and flexible wood and will be able to stand up to high traffic areas in the home.

Birch is a popular wood for the use in flooring due to its appearance. It is fine grained, with a light shade and often displays a satin-like sheen. There are also natural occurring patterns and streaks that occur in Birch wood that makes it even more unique and attractive. Birch unfinished ply is also one of the most durable types of plywood available and is popular for use in such items as skateboards and model airplanes.
